Discovering Assets and Identities with Splunk Asset and Risk Intelligence
Splunk Asset and Risk Intelligence (Splunk ARI) continually discovers assets and identities. It does this using a patented approach that correlates data across mulitple sources in real-time. In this post, we highlight three use cases related to asset discovery using Splunk ARI.
Discover laptops running legacy operating systems
Looking for an easy way to find specific groups of vulnerable assets, such as laptops running legacy operating systems? Searching and filtering for discovered assets is easily performed from the Asset discovery view and takes just a few seconds using the powerful filtering capability. Filters can be saved and shared with others for future use and speed. In the screenshot below, a filter has been applied to look for all assets discovered in the past 30 days, that are running Windows XP, and have an asset class of laptop. The filtered assets are displayed in a table and can be individually investigated further.

Discover default account use
Are you certain that no one is using default accounts across your assets? Using default accounts is a potential way to introduce vulnerabilities into your network and expose data. The Default account insights view, illustrated below, instantly exposes known and tailored, business-specific default account usage across all assets. This actionable reporting can help to ensure that identified default accounts can be disabled, strengthening overall security posture.

Discover all your cloud assets
Leveraging cloud services, but having a hard time keeping track of the assets associated with them? Splunk ARI keeps a full history of all asset changes over time, making it easy to see which assets are being launched or shut down. The cloud asset insights view illustrated below, provides visibility into the cloud assets discovered over time, the providers associated with them and when they were first and last seen. The cloud assets are displayed in a table and can be individually investigated further.
